According to Calgary Renters, the average downtown hotel room price is now at $1,600 a night.
The Calgary Economic Development Authority is projecting that Calgary’s population will shrink by 9,000 by 2026.
The city’s unemployment rate is currently 3.7 per cent and the economic downturn is expected to cost the city more than $8 billion.
While many of the citys population is expected in the coming years to decline, the vacancy rate in downtown hotels is currently at 1.2 per cent.
