A new hotel in Oregon is opening its doors to visitors for the first time in nearly three years after a massive wildfire swept through the region.
The hotel, the new Sea Island Resort, is located on the Pacific Coast, near the coast of Oregon, which was devastated by the 2016 wildfires.
The company that owns the hotel, Pacific Coastal Hotel, has leased land in the area to a hotel company and has leased the hotel’s space to a restaurant that serves food from a nearby restaurant, Pacific Grill, in exchange for its use of the hotel.
In the past, Pacific Hotel has operated on a temporary basis, but this new lease is for a long-term commitment.
The Pacific Coastal hotel is not yet open to the public, but it is expected to open in 2019, and has a scheduled opening date of March 2021.
“We have been committed to staying open for at least three years, and have been operating for years,” said Craig Foy, the managing partner of Pacific Coastal.
“That commitment has been very, very solid.”
Pacific Grill has been operating a restaurant in the hotel since it opened, and Foy said the hotel has helped him expand his restaurant.
“Our restaurant is a little bit smaller, but we’re still able to have a full menu,” he said.
“I think it’s really a great addition to the Pacific Coastal brand.”
The hotel will be the first in the Pacific Northwest to offer dining from a restaurant, Foy added.
Pacific Grill was founded in 2009 by a couple from Australia who decided to bring a food truck to the area, but the concept wasn’t embraced by the local community.
In May 2018, a new restaurant in Portland, The Bitter End, opened, but Foy is confident that this hotel will offer the same kind of dining experience as the Bitter Ends, and he expects it to be a hit with locals.
“It’s a new experience for people that have never been to the beach, and it’s an opportunity for them to get a meal for the same price as a traditional restaurant,” Foy explained.
Pacific Coast is already the largest hotel chain in Oregon and one of the largest in the U.S. with about 1,300 rooms, according to the Oregon Department of Commerce.
The new hotel has about 1 million square feet of space, and the company has leased 2,000 rooms to other hotel companies.
Pacific Coastal is still operating the Pacific Grill restaurant, which serves food that is also available for purchase, but Pacific Grill’s owners hope that this new hotel will bring in customers.
“This hotel is really designed for a variety of different dining and dining experiences,” Foyle said.
