A guest at a Long Beach hotel may have heard a different story.
The Hilton Garden Inn was listed in a recent story as one of the top hotels in the city by Travel & Leisure.
The story said the hotel was built in 1921 and the listing did not include the date.
The hotel, however, does have an interesting history.
The story said it was built on land owned by the local developer, Joseph Schubert, and was later bought by a German immigrant named Fritz Schuber.
The property was purchased in the late 1950s and the property became a resort.
The hotel also had a spa, which has since been shut down.
There was also a water park and a tennis court.
The city of Long Beach did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment.
